After reading candidate comments in the Daily Express this weekend, I believe I need to clarify a misconception about the proposed sales tax increase. If the tax passes, it would begin collection in October 2009. That means it will cover pay raises for next fiscal year, not this current year (that’s what the bonuses were for).
So passing the tax increase would allow us to increase raises for NEXT fiscal year, beginning Jan 2010. Not this current year. It’s important to understand that.
