Kirksville will soon have its own DNA lab

At a special session yesterday, the Kirksville City Council signed an agreement with HIT to give Kirksville its own DNA laboratory. This is truly a win-win situation for HIT and Kirksville. Although according to the agreement HIT will lease us the equipment and help us hire and train our employees, the amazing part is that HIT will reimburse us for any costs we are unable to recoup ourselves, and write off any expenses from the City to HIT that the City cannot recoup.

The City also gets 15 free DNA tests per month, with the ability to roll those over to the next month until the end of the year – or sell our unused tests to others. The income the City receives from selling these tests is ours to keep regardless

It’s hard to believe that we, the citizens of Kirksville, will soon have a full-fledged DNA laboratory of our own. That’s huge. Nobody knows of any town near our size that has one. It will greatly increase the ability and legitimacy of our police force. And since there is at least a 6 month backlog for DNA testing currently at most facilities, we’ll be serving a wide expanse of surrounding communities.

What HIT receives in return is the ability to have us enter their DNA info into the nationwide codice. I’d say that’s a pretty good trade. More details available at the Daily Express website.
